HOMEMADE PASTRY

Ingredients:

1 cup of all purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

6 tablespoons shortening

2 to 3 tablespoons cold water

 

Directions:

 

Mix salt in a medium bowl; cut in shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives until crumbly.  Gradually stir in cold water, mixing until flour is moistened.

Shape dough into ball; flatten to 1-inch thickness.  On lightly floured board, roll dough into a circle about 2-inces larger than inverted 9-inch pie plate.  Line pie plate with pastry.  Trim pastry to 1/2 inch beyond the edge of the pie plate; fold extra pastry under and flute edges.

Makes one 9-inch pie crust

Fill with 1 can of pie filling, place top layer of pie crust over the filling.  Seal edges with a fork or your fingers.  Poke holes in top of crust to let steam escape.  Bake at 375°F for 45-50 min. or until golden brown.  Let cool.
