The students were introduced to the rhythm of line by listening to various music styles.  They then incorporated the rhythm by closing their eyes and applying pencil to paper, drawing the lines they felt from the music.  They then produced shapes by enclosing the lines.  By using contrasting oil pastels colors, the students separated the shapes from the surrounding atmospheric space.
